There are times in life when certain decisions do not need to be as hard as they are.
And yet, here we are. Trying to decide. Chinese or Italian for dinner? Honda or Ford? A Fort Lauderdale or Houston vacation? Merlot or Cabernet? Roses or Tulips?
In applying this to business, a method can be utilized in deciding between two new competitive vendors, or whether it’s a good time to consider an office move.
Whenever you are between two equally compelling choices, try the Coin-Flip-Twist.
Place a coin in your hand, and really think about what each side means. Heads, Chinese Take Out. Tails, Italian Take Out. Flip the coin to reveal which side it will fall on.
Now, what you are noting here is not so much the outcome, but the reaction to the outcome. If it lands on Tails – but there is an instant of hesitation, a little disappointment – then you really wanted the Heads outcome. Then choose Heads. This exercise forces you to place the two options on opposing sides of the coin, and make a decision based on instinct. It clarifies how you really feel about the two choices – and after that has been decided, you can simply move on with life.
